About endometrial cancer
Endometrial cancer starts in the lining of the uterus (endometrium). It is often diagnosed at an early stage because it usually causes bleeding — a symptom that women and their doctors can act on quickly.
Warning signs
See your doctor for any of the following:
- Bleeding after menopause (any amount)
- Bleeding between periods before menopause
- Unusually heavy or prolonged periods
- Pelvic pain that is new or persistent
Diagnosis and treatment
Diagnosis usually involves pelvic ultrasound and a sample of the uterine lining. Surgery is the main treatment for most endometrial cancers, sometimes followed by radiotherapy or systemic therapy depending on stage and risk.
