Radiation Oncology
Modern external-beam radiotherapy planned with CT-based simulation and delivered on precision linear accelerator platforms.
Overview
Radiation oncology uses carefully targeted ionising radiation to treat or control cancer. Our radiation oncologists plan each course of treatment from CT simulation through delivery, working with medical physics colleagues to keep dose on target and off healthy tissue.
Conditions we treat
- Breast cancer
- Prostate cancer
- Head and neck cancers
- Gynaecological cancers
- Lung cancer
- Palliative treatment for pain and bleeding
Our approach
- 01CT simulation and image-guided planning
- 02Conformal and intensity-modulated techniques where indicated
- 03Combined chemo-radiation protocols in appropriate disease sites
- 04Side-effect monitoring throughout the course
What to expect
- Step 1A planning appointment (simulation) before treatment starts
- Step 2Short daily treatment sessions over several weeks
- Step 3Weekly review with your radiation oncologist
- Step 4A follow-up schedule after the course completes
