Supporting a loved one through cancer treatment

For families and caregivers. What actually helps day to day, how to talk about difficult topics, and how to look after yourself too.

Practical support

Concrete help is often more useful than grand gestures — meals, lifts to appointments, help with the school run, or an hour of quiet company during a treatment session.

How to talk about it

Follow the lead of the person you are supporting. Some days they will want to talk about the diagnosis; other days they will want to talk about anything but. Listening without immediately trying to fix is a gift.

Looking after yourself

Caregiver fatigue is real. Sleep, honest conversations with other supporters, and asking for professional help when you need it are not signs of weakness — they are how you stay useful over the long run.
